Hygienic Arts and Mayfly Playhouse present Mayfly X Saturday, February 3 at the Crocker House Ballroom, 35 Union Street, New London Connecticut, the 10th annual Mayfly event. $10 suggested donation at the door. Doors open at 7:30pm and the play will begin at 8pm.
It is called “Mayfly” because these plays are born, rehearsed, and performed within a 24-hour span, the life of a mayfly. Now in it’s tenth year, Mayfly X is a 24-hour-play-production event where on Friday night six playwrights draw a random cast of actors and director, are given a set of rules, a prop, and by 6 AM the next morning they deliver a brand-new 10-minute play. At 8:00 AM Saturday morning the scripts are distributed to the actors, the casts and directors go to rooms at the Spark Maker Space New London to rehearse the plays. At 5:00 PM we have our dress rehearsal, and at 8:00 PM these plays are performed at a one-night-only event in the Crocker House Ballroom in front of a capacity crowd.
This year’s playwright line-up includes New London’s Jake Kaeser and Darcy Parker Bruce, Mystic’s Anna Maria Trusky and Lenny Bellet, Scott Kegler from Willimantic, and Kyle Minor from Danbury. Returning directors for the plays are Alec Asten, Victoria Gordon, Lura Hepler, Tracy Tremblay, and Robert MacPherson. Stage manager is Theresa Broach, and producer is Kato McNickle.
