While participating in the local arts scene you start to pinpoint specific artists by their medium, subject matter and their style. Evidence of their voice becomes obvious. We here in New London have the great opportunity time and time again to watch artists change their views and the way they see and depict through their creative eyes. This will be one for the books....Madasci, Jonassen and Kepple will show a side of their artistic not often seen. “Three Piece Suit” will define a new line of communication from local artists that we have grown to know and appreciate, in a whole new light.

Susan Madasci resident artist at the Velvet Mill Studios in Stonington lives in Norwich ArtSpace. Madasci known for her work as a blacksmith both locally and nationally is currently working with Hygienic Art Inc. creating metal pieces to become a part of the Hygienic Art Park project. Madasci spending the majority of her artistic time working with metal finds that she craves an opportunity for color. Madasci often creating work both traditional and functional saw opportunity in this exhibit to deliver with ravenous ability paintings structured with ease gleefully adorned with inspirational color. “Three piece Suit” has presented an arena to express, with two dimensions her need to explore color and design. Susan unable to strand her love of metal has also created a few works in metal to accompany her two dimensional discoveries.

Mel Jonassen also known as Beadmiester Mel has well articulated through her bead creations a master craftsmanship that has been published and praised in numerous magazines and books. Mel exhibiting throughout the year with Empress of Art Gallery and Boutique has presented the community with some of the most unique lampwork jewelry. Mel known primarily for her highly traditional, creative and functional uses of beads will show the other side of her meister with works of a more conceptual reality. Jonassen working with elements conceived from a consumers view, will present her labor intensive beaded sculpture pieces along with works inspired from her travels around the world. Jonassen working with pieces for eight or more years proves dedicated to expose beadwork as up and coming art form. “Three Piece Suit” for the Beadmeister presents a venue that one can only begin to imagine the possibility of the bead.

Christopher Kepple, publisher The Scope magazine, a local arts and literary magazine spends most of time working with the written word. Kepple a poet and pioneer of the New London Poetry movement has used many local public arenas to encourage teach and promote the local art movement . Kepple has another side that is indicative of a more visual type of poetry. Kepple, working primarily with three dimensions interchanging and composing objects that have crossed his path, used “Three piece Suit” as a chance to show the two dimensional side of his creativity. Creating a series of paintings that depict a colorful cultural flare, he uses bold color and gesture to describe movement and feeling. Kepple creates stunning works that define him as undefinable and free to explore paint as a subject of change.

2004 has proven to be one of many accomplishments. What better way to celebrate the strength of the passing year and the promise of a new, with new work from some of the areas promising young talent. Come join us in our “Three Piece Suit” and celebrate art, life and 2005!
