Juried Exhibit Submissions
OutDesign is juried exhibit focusing on the art of design. “Design is the conceptualization and creation of new things: ideas, interactions, information, objects, typefaces, books, posters, products, places, signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more.” (source: http://design.uic.edu/what-is-design) Submissions from all mediums are welcome.
Architect Jason Holtman, Art Director Ben Parent and Graphic Designer Juanita Austin will jury “OutDesign”. Jason Holtzman is an internationally known architect who has been working with the innovative of “green” sustainable design professionally since 1993. His projects are known nationally from L.A. to New York and his design will also be utilized for the construction of Hygienic Art Park’s new amphitheater project. Ben Parent has over 25 years of experience in design and communications and currently serves as Art Director for Connecticut College, where he has been employed since 2006. Parent, a valued Hygienic Board Member, also runs his own promotion label “Good Sponge” and has been involved in the New London music and arts scene since the early 1990’s. Juanita Austin is an independent Digital Media Specialist who in addition to working with Hygienic Art as Gallery Associate serves on several local grass-roots arts initiatives including the “Festival of Creativity and Innovation”.
The opening reception will be Saturday, March 25 from 7—10. There will be cash prizes for selected best pieces. The show will run through Saturday, April 22.

No pre-registration required. Bring work to Hygienic Art Galleries.
Unselected work must be picked up on Saturday, March 25 from 12pm – 4pm OR during open Gallery Hours before April 1st.
Selected Work and Purchased Work must be picked up Sunday, April 23rd between the hours of 12-4pm.
The “Out Design” Exhibit will consider submissions that include graphic design, industrial design, fashion design, architectural design, etc… Submissions will be juried based on the elements and principles of design.
Elements of design described here are point, line, shape, form, space, color, and texture. Design principles include balance, proportion, perspective, emphasis, movement, pattern, repetition, rhythm, variety, harmony, and unity.
For the past twelve years Hygienic Art has collaborated with New London SailFest to incorporate an additional artistic element into the city's largest weekend festival. Hygienic Artisans will occupy Bank Street between Golden and Pearl to create an atmosphere of art and culture by recruiting artists, DIY crafters, makers, and unconventional vendors.
In true Hygienic spirit, the Hygienic Artisan Market (formerly Bizarre Bazaar) is a festive, outdoor market space where people can expect the unexpected, and unearth signature crafts from artisans who create the unusual as well as beautiful.

Electricity hook-up fee (optional): $80 per booth
**Applications received before May 1st will have their name & website listed on hygienic.org

Submissions for 2017 exhibits are now closed. Concepts and portfolios are have been reviewed and selected.
Hygienic Art accepts show submissions on a early basis in August. The next call for submissions will be August 2017. To be considered you will need:
- Artist statement
- Artist resume, which will include show history
- Show concept
- Portfolio of representative works (jpeg.s Digital Submissions please) 4-10 representative images
- Contact information
Artists are encouraged to work in groups to develop show concepts. Show concepts include artwork, participating artists and show name. When applying with a group show please send Hygienic Art information representing each artist: resume, statement and representative works. Solo art shows will be considered, but for a better chance to being accepting please consider forming a group conceptual show.
