Makers, Artists, and Crafters Festival

For the past twelve years Hygienic Art has collaborated with New London SailFest to incorporate an additional artistic element into the city's largest weekend festival. Hygienic Artisans will occupy Bank Street between Golden and Pearl to create an atmosphere of art and culture by recruiting artists, DIY crafters, makers, and unconventional vendors.

In true Hygienic spirit, the Hygienic Artisan Market (formerly Bizarre Bazaar) is a festive, outdoor market space where people can expect the unexpected, and unearth signature crafts from artisans who create the unusual as well as beautiful.

Similar to the mission behind Hygienic Art’s first show 35 years ago, “to bring art to the common man,” Hygienic’s participation in SailFest continues to spotlight and share creative ideas and art with the community.

This year prizes will be awarded to best in show for each artistic category -- voted on by the people and the sponsor committee! There will be a breakfast Sunday morning of the festival in the Hygienic Art Park to announce the winners.


About Sailfest

40th annual Sailfest! Sailfest 2017 will be held July 7th-9th. Sailfest is Southeastern Connecticut’s premiere summertime event, which attracts over 300,000 people. Complete with a major fireworks display, amusement rides, free entertainment, Tall Ships, and over 200 vendors lining the streets. There will be plenty to see, buy, and eat. Rules & Regulations

All exhibited work must be original art created by the applicant. Any submissions that are not handcrafted work will NOT be accepted. Discounts are available for vendors who will be doing live demonstrations of their work. No food or beverage sales are allowed.
Entry fee will be refunded (minus a $20 processing fee) if an application is not accepted or if a written cancellation is received by June 8. Cancellations after this date will NOT be refunded.
All artisans are required to show proof of vendor insurance with their application or upon acceptance to the festival especially for live demonstrations. General liability insurance can be purchased through Hygienic via Swanson Insurance for $55. Call 860-443-1500.
Applications received will go through a juried process by the festival coordinators. All artists will receive emailed confirmation of acceptance to festival. Notifications of acceptance or non-acceptance for the festival will be made on a rolling basis as received.
Each participant is pre-assigned a 10’x10’ space. Tents, racks and other displays must be able to withstand crowds and winds. Participants are responsible for providing their own weights. Booth space and locations are assigned based on the date that the application is received. The use of the location is restricted to whom it is assigned. Hygienic does not provide tents, display units, tables or chairs. Participants must provide their own stall fixtures. Exhibitors may leave booths intact Saturday night though Hygienic is not responsible for damage or theft. We strongly recommend that you remove any items of value. Exhibits must be tended to by artists at all times.
Electricity is available for an additional $80 fee per booth. Participants must provide their own extension cords. Outlets are limited, therefore electricity is on a first request, first served basis.
Official festival credentials and CT Tax ID number must be clearly displayed at all times. To obtain a CT Tax ID Number, visit www.ct.goc/drs, click on: Forms > Applications/Registrations then choose - Reg 1. Fill out the form and mail to: State of Connecticut Department of Revenue Services
Hygienic Art can not provide designated parking for vendors though there are garages nearby. Vendors should factor this into their planning for load-in and break-down for the event.
Absolutely no early set-up. City ordinances require set-up after 7am on July 8 and tear-down at 6pm on July 9. Early break-down is unacceptable and artists who do so will not be invited to return.
This is an outdoor festival that will be held rain or shine. There are no refunds for inclement weather.
